PRESS RELEASE
December 29, 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: Brad Cox
Superintendent of Schools,
Coahoma ISD
As the designated spokesperson and superintendent for the Coahoma Independent School
District (the “District”), I am issuing the following statement:
On Thursday, December 28, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the District’s administration
received a report from a District student that a threat had been made on our school district. The District contacted local law enforcement officials, and they responded immediately. The Howard County sheriff’s department found the threat was made from out of state. Student safety and welfare are of paramount importance to the District, and we take every allegation of a school safety violation seriously. We believe there is no present danger to our students and schools. Nonetheless, we will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure that its students are educated in a safe learning environment at all of our campuses. State and federal law
prohibit the District from disclosing personally identifiable student information. Therefore, the District cannot provide further information on this matter. The District will continue to fully cooperate with all authorities having jurisdiction over this matter as needed and to the fullest extent permitted by law. As Superintendent of Schools, I am very proud of the students, staff, and Howard County Sheriff's Department for the prompt and proactive measures taken in resolving this situation.
Brad Cox, Superintendent of Schools, Coahoma ISD
