BIG SPRING, Texas — The Coahoma High School Powerlifting team opened their season on Saturday with a strong performance at the Big Spring Invitational meet.
Returning powerlifters Nevaeh Kerby, Macayla Valencia, and Tres Vasquez had a standout performance at their first meet of the year.
Kerby, a two-time state qualifier, won gold in the 97 weight class. She squatted 215, benched 110, and hoisted 215 on deadlift for a total of 540 pounds of iron pumped.
Valencia had a three-lift total of 545 pounds to capture second place in the 114 weight class. She recorded 220 on squat, 100 on bench, and 225 on deadlift.
Rounding out the top Coahoma finishers is Vasquez, who brought home bronze in the 132 weight class with a three-lift total of 980. He squatted 365, benched 225, and hoisted 390 on deadlift.
Finishing in the top five of their weight class were: 4th. Madison Bose (395), 5th. Abigail Bose (480), 5th. Claire Wegner (340), 5th. Bryce Davis (845), and 5th. Cloud Arriola, 1190.
