The Coahoma High School girls varsity team placed first and the boys team finished fourth in their host meet to begin their track season.
In the girls division, the Bulldogettes had an outstanding day with four members placing in the top 10 athlete division. The girls varsity team collected four gold, three silver, and three bronze medals in individual competition and one silver and two bronze medals in the relay events.
Christian Everett led the way for the Coahoma girls winning two golds, a silver, and a bronze. She won the 100 M Dash, an event she qualified in for the 2021 regional finals, with a time of 12.93 seconds. She finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 11¾ inches; second in the 4x200 M Relay; and third in the 4x100 M Relay. Her performance on the field earned her the top athlete in her division. Fellow teammates Nevaeh Kerby finished third in the top athlete division, Baylor Wright was fourth, and Merick Alvarez was 10th.
Also earning gold medals were Brynn Rodgers in the discus with a throw of 83 feet, 8 inches; and Wright in the pole vault, who cleared 7 feet.
Cayhill Lewis, Alvarez, and Kerby took home silver in their individual events. Lewis competed in the discus throw and finished with a distance of 80 feet, 9½ inches. Kerby cleared 15 feet in the long jump, and Alvarez finished the 800 M Run with a time of 1 minute, 9.64 seconds. Rounding out the individual medal winners were Karleigh Burt, Madison Green, and Kerby, who won bronze in the long jump, shot put, and triple jump, respectively.
In team competition, the 4x200 M Relay team of Kerby, Isabella Cox, Serena Dobbs, and Everett finished second with a time of 1 minute, 54.65 seconds. The Coahoma 4x100 (Everett, Vada Cortez, Kerby, Dobbs) and 4x400 (Alvarez, Wright, Kerby, Burt) came in third with times of 2 minutes, 47.15 seconds and 4 minutes, 37.08 seconds, respectively.
In the boys division, the Bulldog 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams were dominant winning golds in both events. The 4x200 team of Isaiah Eleda, Tristan Guerrero, Billy Bailey, and Brysen Kerby, finished in 1 minute, 33.40 seconds. The 4x400 team of Nick Tutle, Guerrero, Bailey, and Austin Perkins crossed the finish line in three minutes, 39.88 seconds.
In the individual events, the Bulldogs earned four silver and three bronze medals. Eleda finished second in the 100 M Dash with a time of 11.50 seconds. Perkins earned silver in the 300 M Hurdles by crossing the finish line in 43.22 seconds and in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 10 inches. Kerby won bronze in the 100 M Dash.
In the field events, Reagan Chapman cleared five feet, four inches in the high jump to win silver while Bailey and Tutle won bronze in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Overall, the Bulldogs had two members land in the top 10 athlete division. They were Bailey, 4th; and Perkins, 6th.
Next: Coahoma will travel to Tuscola, Texas, to participate in the Jim Ned High School Tribe Relays on Thursday, March 10.
